CDC is a mandatory program in First Nations communities. Communicable diseases are contagious diseases caused by germs, which pass from person to person or from animals/insects to people, either directly or indirectly

IMMUNIZATIONS

Vaccines can prevent some diseases and reduce the serious complications of many diseases listed as follows:

• Diptheria

• Hepatitus B

• Hemophilus Influenza tye B (type of meningitis)

• Influenza (flu)

• Measles

• Meningococcal disease (meningitis)

• Mumps

• Polio

• Rubella

• Tetanus

• BCG for Tuberculosis

• Hepatitis A

HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS (HIV)

The prevention program for HIV focuses on raising awareness, education and the provision of barrier methods, such as condoms, to help prevent disease transmission (including other STD's)

TUBERCULOSIS (TB) ELIMINATION PROGRAM

The goal of the TB elimination program is to wipe out TB in First Nations Communities

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (EHS)

​

Environmental health services is designed to protect the communities' health against communicable disease and exposure to environmental contaminants

​

DRINKING WATER SAFETY PROGRAM (DWSP)

​

The goal of the program is to monitor water supplies to ensure safe drinking water in accordance with the Guidelines to Canadian Drinking Water Quality(GCDWQ)

FIRST NATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINANTS PROGRAM (FNECP)

The First Nations Environmental Contaminants Program assists First Nations to do research on sources, exposure and health risks of environmental contaminants in their communities

TRANSPORTATION OF DANGEROUS GOODS PROGRAM (TDG)

​

The TDG program provides standards to manage the disposal of biochemical waste and the transportation of dangerous goods in First Nations communities
